Reports directly to the Injection Molding Business Unit Manager. Organizes, directs and coordinates all Engineering activities related to World Wide PAS Manufacturing and Business activities. Responsibilities for the project and process support duties within assigned manufacturing area to sustain, improve and/or expand plant molding operations and meet business goals and objectives. Duties require application of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. Provide capable leadership and motivation to all associates. Effectively executes all activities in compliance with the highest safety, quality, service and total cost objectives of the business at all times. Coordinates activities between plant functional departments, Manufacturing Process Technology and Division R & D as required.
Manages, plans, develops and directs the Injection Molding Engineering department functions to support and assist the Production and Quality departments in order to meet or exceed budgeted goals.
Coaches associates and performs yearly job evaluations on direct reports.
Support and recommend the disposition of all non-conforming products.
Understand and apply decoupled/systematic molding techniques in establishing new and existing processes, and general troubleshooting.
Support daily production by identifying chronic issues and problems that cannot be resolved by production associates.
Assures good engineering practices are employed on all project and/or process assignments and associated equipment in accordance with GMP standards. Audits proposed new or modified equipment/processes for compliance with all short and long term production requirements (i.e. quality levels, labor efficiency, capacity levels, waste levels, etc.)
Provides assistance in all phases of Budget, Forecasts, and Standards preparation.
Implement and coordinate all changes to existing molding processes by writing and approving needed documentation.
Work with quality engineering personnel to improve existing procedures and measurement methods.
Function as a leader or team member on cross-functional teams to address assembly/customer quality issues.
Support continuous improvement activities by participating on CI teams, blitzes, 5S teams, Lean and 6 Sigma initiatives.
Identify and drive Cost Improvement Projects (CIP’s) to completion.
Initiate CB-2 and manage spending on capital projects and develop business plan for scale-up of an existing or new products with multiple molded components.
Support the implementation of new processes and auxiliary equipment to the molding production area.
Prepares standards for Preventative Maintenance, MOD’s (Machine Operating Description), ECO’s and issue proper documentation for manufacturing.
Write protocols for new and modified processes by coordinating acceptance criteria with the molding quality engineer an assembly engineering as required.
Understand DOE methodology and use in developing new process windows and identifying mold tooling and processing improvements.
Collect and statistically analyze data, and document results in process development, IQ, OQ, and PQ completion reports.
Specify and/or purchase molds, equipment, tooling, and fixtures for new and existing processes.
Support new product development by supporting molding development engineering, product/process design, quality assurance, and assembly production to identify potential issues in the molding process before it is scaled up in molding production.
Responsible for the development of quantitative and qualitative goals and strategies and the attainment of these goals, both for him/herself and his subordinates, which is consistent with Plant and Division annual and three-year strategy plans.
Participate in assigned career development training programs, including Validation Practitioner, Molding Toolkit, Six Sigma Green Belt, and Lean Leader training.
BA/BS Degree in an Engineering related field preferred -OR- equivalent education with an emphasis in manufacturing technology.
Minimum of 5 years experience in injection molding process knowledge, project management, and tooling design.
